The main purpose of The Fraternity is achievement in every field of human endeavor. Invictus
William Ernest Henley (1849 - 1903)
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be
for my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
Have not winced nor cried aloud
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishment the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
Originally, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was founded for undergraduates on the campus of Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana. However, the need for this Fraternity does not end with graduation and consequently, alumni chapters developed over time. Our National headquarters developed guidelines for forming Kappa Alpha Psi alumni chapters. Along those guidelines, Kappa men (Joe Walker*, Winfred Jones, Donell Bacon, and M. Gilbert Kirkland*) formed an Association of Kappa men in Syracuse, New York because they did not meet the numbers requirement to form an alumni chapter at that time.
However, in 1973 twelve Kappa men came together in Syracuse, New York to form The Syracuse Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc.
